TAPPED OUT OF REALITY
motion graphics
The story is meant to follow the idea of being trapped behind a screen — living in this digital age and living through the people that we see on that screen. I want this piece to feel very playful yet with an eerie undertone throughout. It’s meant to feel nostalgic and reminiscent, but not necessarily for good reason. I was heavily inspired by this new wave 90’s newtro punk and Y2K visual movement with this green and sepia tint throughout. I took a lot of motion inspiration from streetwear or fashion brands as well.
SCREEN TAPPING
This piece follows me as I live in this “digital” world, almost like I am viewing myself from an outside perspective. The overall mood is meant to end on a negative note — I want to show the expression of feeling lost in the real world, aided by seeing a version of myself and the world through these digital lenses. The piece is named ‘Beta’ as I feel like I am in a Beta stage of my development, still unsure about who exactly I am and where I fit in, waiting to find this final version of myself that can allow me to do all of these things I want and see, off of the screen as well.
FINAL CUT
Beta gives commentary on my personal life with low self-esteem, looking at the people’s lives around me, envious of materialism and their own confidence and love, some things I have always struggled with. It’s meant to show how we often lose our identity completely when we get sucked into these virtual realities we see of other people on such small screens.
